Local search is the part of SEO with the shortest path to revenue. Somebody searching “tax advisor 1070” is not researching, they are about to call. Which is exactly why those results are more contested than people expect.
For local queries Google decides the map results first, and your website second. The profile is not a side task.
Fill it in completely. Category, services, opening hours, directions, payment methods. Every empty field is one where a competitor looks better prepared.
Choose the primary category carefully. It carries more weight than any other setting. “Web designer” and “advertising agency” surface for different searches — serving both half-heartedly wins neither.
Real photographs. Your team, your space, your work. Stock imagery is recognisable and it does not produce phone calls.
Collect reviews continuously. Not twenty at once and then nothing for three years. Ask at the point of delivery, when satisfaction is highest, and reply to every review.
Name, address and phone number must be identical everywhere — website, Google, directories, social profiles. “Straße” in one place and “Str.” in another feels trivial, but to an automated system it is a reason for doubt. Inconsistent details are one of the most common reasons a profile trails the competition.
A real page per service. Somebody searching “online shop Vienna” should land on a page about online shops, not on an overview of everything you do.
Local relevance in the content, not in a keyword pile. Name districts you have actually worked in and projects that can be verified.
Mobile load time. Local search happens on the move. A page that takes three seconds loses calls to one that does not.
LocalBusiness markup. Structured data with address, hours and services helps Google classify your business correctly.
The profile gets set up once and never touched again. Local visibility is not a project with a completion date, it is a habit: new photos, correct hours over the holidays, replies to reviews, the occasional post. That is very little work per month — and the difference between position two and position nine.
Movement in the Google Business Profile is often visible within weeks, because that profile sits directly in Google's hands. Rankings in ordinary search take longer — several months is normal, depending on how contested your field is in Vienna.
Only where you genuinely operate. Twenty near-identical district pages are a well-known pattern that Google treats as thin content. One good page per real location beats twenty generated ones.
Yes, twice over: they influence whether you appear in the local map results at all, and they decide whether somebody calls. A steady flow of genuine reviews outperforms an old batch collected in one push.
