The project – Das Piratentum
The company Das Piratentum is an athlete management company. Their main focus is to manage athlete on the pro level and also help amateurs make the jump into the pro leagues. Das Piratentum needed an eye-catching website, which highlights their work, athletes and makes it easy to get in touch with them. An eye-catching brand logo, because BRANDING matters. Das Piratentum also asked me to manage their social media profiles – YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
First, I secured the two domains – piratentum.com & daspiratentum.com. It’s always important to own the .com domain. After that, I started the design process of the brand logo. A logo is the visual core of any brand. The name of the company is “Das Piratentum”, which is the German word for “piracy”. The owner of the company told me that he loves the classic pirate flag we all know – a skull and crossbones. That was my starting point, but to make it something exclusive and eye-catching, I had to change it in a way that no one had seen before. Because of the company owner’s heritage and the milieu he grew up in, I decided to give the logo an Oriental/Arabic touch – a full beard. The final logo is definitely eye catching and the guys at Das Piratentum loves it!
For the corporate colors I used a winered – burgundy combination additional to the classic black, darkgrey and white combination.
For the website, I decided to go with the CMS WordPress – it makes it easy to add athletes, blog posts, corporation partners and important announcements.
To give it a professional yet modern feel, I decided to keep it simple and clean – I opted for the 3 brand colors that clients are already familiar with. Too many colors and too many visual effects can easily annoy website visitors – aesthetics are important, but ultimately the client is visiting the site to do business, so my job was to make it as easy as possible for them to access the information they need.
Currently I am still managing and preparing the posts for the Social Media accounts of Das Piratentum. For Instagram I use a combination of informational posts, spotlights of athletes and partners.
I’m very happy with the outcome of the project and I’m glad that I am still contributing to it and a part of their journey.
